Women’s Cross Country team places second in conference, fifth at regionals

Women's Cross Country teamThe Hill College Women’s Cross Country team finished second in conference and fifth in regionals at Saturday’s combined meet at Harry McAdams Park in Hobbs, New Mexico. The conference and regional races are held together but scored separately.

Head Cross Country Coach Greg Lautenslager said this was the first time Hill College has put together a full women’s team – and he’s very pleased with the overall results.

“Freshman Keysha Gil from Alvarado led our women’s team placing 25th with a time of 21:25 over the 5K course, the best-ever regional finish for a Hill College woman,” Lautenslager said. “Also, freshman Cassilyn Jaecks from Denton came in 30th with a time of 21:52; and Keene freshman Laila Vasquez finished 32nd (21:59).

Lautenslager also said Keene sophomore Jiylene Santiago improved almost 10 minutes from last year’s regional after placing 34th (22:03); sophomore Kimberly Mata from Alvarado came in 36th (22:24); Arlington’s Jazmin Oviedo was 48th (25:12); and Analia Menendez 49th (25:28).

The Hill College women finished with 139 points in the region. New Mexico Junior College won with 18 points and El Paso was second with 56 points. In the conference race, North Central Texas College had 16 points and Hill College had 42. Ten schools competed in the regional meet.
